Department of Environmental Sciences of the college was established from the academic year 2004-05. As per directions from the apex court, the subject of Environmental studies was included as a compulsory qualifying paper in all the UG Courses (including professional courses also) from the session 2004-05. All graduation students are required to qualify the paper, failing which the result is not declared and the degree is not awarded.
Major aim of the department is to furnish the students with a comprehensive understanding of key environmental issues, and use of a wide range of environmental tools and methods so that they can play leading role in development and application of environmental policies and management. The Department plans to focus its research activities in diverse thrust areas during the coming years. Besides meeting its academic objectives, the Department aimed at providing leadership in the area of conservation of environment, rational utilization of natural resources and creation of public awareness. The academic program of the Department has been extensively reviewed, revised and updated, keeping in mind the need for sharper focusing, the available expertise at any given time, and committed to changes desired in curriculum of individual courses or specific programs.
